TYPICAL ITINERARY
Begin your idyllic 97-night Asia Pacific Adventure Cruise from Auckland. Unpack once, relax and enjoy your holiday as you cruise to:
Tauranga, New Zealand
Sprawling along the sweeping bay, Tauranga is a popular summer resort and one of the country's most important ports for the export of kiwi fruit, timber, and dairy products. It is also the gateway for Rotorua, the geothermal wonderland that is one of New Zealand's most famous attractions.
Napier, New Zealand
Northeast of the capital city of Wellington is Napier, a town with much to boast about. Napier is known for producing wool, growing fruit, cultivating grapes and making wine. The natural setting that helps in its agricultural pursuits also makes Napier popular among retirees and tourists; after all, who can resist picturesque countryside with an air of sophistication-and not a whiff of pretension? Add to its bucolic charms a rich Maori history and tales of explorer Captain Cook and you have a destination worthy of your own discovery.
Wellington, New Zealand
Hugging the hillsides around Port Nicholson, a horseshoe-shaped bay that is one of the world's finest, Wellington reminds many visitors of San Francisco. In cultural offerings as well as landscape - Wellington boasts the National Art Gallery and the Dominion Museum, as well as the Government Building, one of the world's largest wodden structures.
Picton, New Zealand
Named after Sir Thomas Picton, a British Army officer who was killed at the Battle of Waterloo, Picton is a picturesque town located at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound, one of four Sounds that make up the Marlborough Sounds. Renowned for outdoor activities such as fishing, kayaking, cycling and hiking, the region is also popular for chances to observe the area’s wildlife, including birds, seals and dolphins. People watching is yet another pleasant way to pass the time. Picton’s waterfront, dotted with cafés and restaurants, is where you will see locals conversing and dining in their comfortable natural habitat.
Christchurch/Lyttleton, New Zealand
Just 30 minutes from the pier at Lyttelton lies Christchurch, New Zealand's spectacular "Garden City."
Founded as a model church settlement in 1851, Christchurch is now the South Island's premier metropolitan center.
The planner's dream of creating an English town is reflected in its well-tended gardens, fine Victorian architecture and ivy-covered stone homes, set beside the meandering River Avon.
Dunedin, New Zealand
The charming city of Dunedin lies in southeastern New Zealand, less than ten miles from our pier in Port Chalmers. Its name means Edinburgh in Gaelic and to this day it has retained enduring reminders of its Scottish roots. Adorning the streets of Dunedin is a wealth of Victorian and Edwardian buildings, richly festooned with spires, gables and gargoyles. These architectural landmarks are imposing reminders of a more prosperous era. Surprisingly, the surrounding area is also home to prolific local wildlife, animals rarely found so close to a major city. The choice is yours: explore impressive city architecture, take a rail journey through unspoiled wilderness or venture out to view albatrosses and a country estate.
Sydney, Australia
The billowing profile of the Opera House greets us on her return to Sydney's glorious, world-class harbor. Ahead lies the arch of the Harbour Bridge. These twin symbols, more than any other, identify one of the Southern Hemisphere's premier cities.
Brisbane, Australia
Nestled between the Gold Coast to the south and the Sunshine Coast to the north, laid-back Brisbane makes the most of its magnificent beaches, offering an ideal blend of Aussie ease and urban energy. Wander in the lush Botanical Gardens, shop in the Queen Street Mall, or enjoy the countless cafés and restaurants along the banks of the Brisbane River.
Hamilton Island/Whitsunday Island, Australia
Their location is perfect: the Whitsunday Islands, among them Hamilton Island, sit right off the white sandy coast of Queensland, just 90 minutes from the Outer Great Barrier Reef and amid some dazzling dive sites of their own. Of these 74 islands, most are uninhabited. The islands that do welcome guests offer countless opportunities for snorkeling, diving, sailing, hiking and fishing.
Perhaps the island with the most to see and do is Hamilton Island. Recently infused with $36 million for a complete refurbishment, the vacation village has been polished to a high sheen and equipped with top-notch amenities. Wander the marina where you can stop for a bite to eat at one of the cafés or do some shopping. For a quintessentially Aussie experience, hike the trails that wind through the island's 1,853-acre virgin bush land. Also visit the wildlife sanctuary for a chance to pet a baby crocodile or hold a cuddly Koala.
Cairns, Australia
Welcome to Cairns [cans], where the weather and hospitality are warm. Tropical Cairns is Queenland's most northerly city, and is framed by two features of such pristine beauty and incomparable value that they have been listed by the World Heritage Society.
Located at the point where the Great Dividing Range and Great Barrier Reef curve gently to the shoreline, Cairns is graced with inspiring natural attractions in all directions. Beyond the coast are mountains, rainforests, eucalyptus, waterfalls, lakes, rugged ravines and grazing farmlands fed by freshwater streams. Above all, two of the most wonderful assets are the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforests.
Cairns, the colorful, sophisticated capital of the tropical north, is alive with life and charm. At hand and beckoning for your discovery are elegant boutiques, markets, art galleries and museums.
Darwin, Australia
Darwin, Australia's northernmost city, lies between the sun-bleached Outback and the Arafura Sea on Australia's "Top End," as tropical northern Australia is familiarly called. Cosmopolitan, yet casual, the capital of the Northern Territory has grown from its roguish beginnings into a modern, mellow mini-metropolis. Establishing and maintaining a European frontier outpost on Australia's remote northern shores has never been easy. The early colonists' aim in settling this far-flung area was to pre-empt foreign occupation and create a trading post for the British Empire. However, aside from a short-lived gold rush during the latter-half of the 19th Century, Darwin seems to have had a long string of bad luck. Since its early days, the city has weathered three destructive cyclones, the worst being Cyclone Tracy in 1974, as well as Japanese air raids during World War II. Despite its struggles, Darwin boasts a comfortable tropical climate and some of Australia's most intact cultural and natural highlights. Nearby Litchfield National Park provides an abundance of wildlife, numerous waterfalls and a remarkable backdrop for your afternoon explorations of The Territory. For those seeking the source of the Aussie lifestyle made famous by "Crocodile Dundee," the beauty of the Adelaide River and its famed jumping crocodiles will be of particular appeal. Darwin is a fascinating blend of culture, history and nature and beckons for your exploration.
Bali/Benoa, Indonesia
Bali is so beautiful that the natives believe heaven will be just like home, and touring this island paradise, it's easy to see why. Here are mysterious volcanic lakes and jungle-shrouded volcanoes, wondrous ancient temples, fabulously creative painters and wood-carvers, and the legendary dancers who re-enact the stories of their Hindu deities.
Semarang, Indonesia
Located on the north coast of the island of Java, Indonesia, Semarang is the capital of its province, playing a prominent role as both busy commercial center and important cultural destination. The lowlands are characterized by offices, business centers and industrial estates, while up in the hills are houses with lovely gardens and superb views. The city’s current vibrancy could perhaps have been predicted, as Semarang has been a bustling trading center since the Dutch colonial era, when the Dutch East Indies Company established tobacco plantations and built infrastructure such as roads and railroads. The Dutch influence can still be seen in the older part of the city near the harbor. Other cultures, primarily that of the Chinese, also have left their imprint on Semarang and continue to be a significant part of what it is to live in and visit Java.
Jakarta, Indonesia
One of Asia’s most electrifying urban centers, Jakarta is a sprawling, heavily populated city of almost 10 million people. Famous for its shopping, people come to Jakarta from all over the world to snap up bargains, both in traditional open-air marketplaces and ritzy super malls. The region is particularly known for its batik outlets and factories. Despite being the capital of the world’s largest Islamic country, Jakarta has one of the hippest nightlife scenes in Southeast Asia, with over 200 bars, discos, pubs and upscale lounges spread across the city.
Kuala Lumpur/Port Kelang, Malaysia
Bustling port Kelang is the principal port of entry for Malaysia. The country's capital, Kuala Lumpur, is a suprisingly modern city of domes, minarets and spacious, tree-lined avenues. Her symbols of faith are visible at the Jamek Mosque, the city's birthplace.
Penang, Malaysia
Located on the spice routes, the British East India Company established a colony on Penang Island in 1786. Chinese, Indians and Sumatrans soon settled the island, yet the European influence remains strong. Enjoy the Chinese embroidery and Malay daggers in the Penang Museum, marvel at the Penang Bridge (third longest in the world), or view the harbor from breezy Penang Hill.
Phuket, Thailand
Residents call Phuket "The Pearl of the South," and one visit to this green, sun-soaked island in the Andaman Sea will show you why. The coast is a succession of magnificent beaches, the forested interior boasts virgin rain forests and numerous plantations-cacao, pineapple, rubber. The culture is a distinctive blend of Portuguese, Chinese and indigenous Chao Naam, a proud seafaring people.
Singapore
Singapore blends the contemporary splendor of a sparkling modern city with influences from throughout the Orient. Its history is one of riches and romance, spice trading and piracy, colonialism and growth. This island state has grown from a small fishing village to one of Asia's greatest success stories. Temples, mosques and churches stand as serene reminders of the varied collection of migrations that have graced its history. Discover the mansions and polo greens of colonial Singapore, the mystique of Chinatown and the heady aroma of spices and curry along Arab Street. You will quickly come to understand why Singapore is acclaimed as the "Crossroads of the East."
Bangkok/Laem Chabang, Thailand
The port city of Laem Chabang is your gateway to Bangkok, Thailand's glittering capital. This "City of Angels" is a lustrous city of immense Oriental charm, festooned with ornate temples, shrines and a lacework of canals. Towering golden spires reach for the heavens while sunlight glistens on the majestic Royal Palace and boats laden with produce drift up and down the canals. Shining through this dream-like setting is the hospitality and warmth of the gentle Thais. These talented people have raised folk dance to high art, created mouth-watering cuisine and built a splendid capital, unique in all the world.
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Crystal Serenity's visit to Ho Chi Minh City, known universally and affectionately by residents as Saigon, will offer a stimulating insight into Vietnam's eventful past and a glimpse into its hopeful future. Over two decades have passed since American forces left these shores. Since then, Ho Chi Minh City has regained a prosperous air of thriving activity. Rice boats float down the waterways, streets bustle with commerce, scooters speed by and a sense of history fills the air. There are quiet temples to discover, French colonial public buildings to admire and numerous street markets to stroll. Visitors to Ho Chi Minh City can be assured of a friendly and hospitable welcome. Ho Chi Minh City serves as our main gateway to the alluring wonders of Cambodia (Kampuchea).
Chan May, Vietnam
With this maiden call for Crystal Cruises, you will dock closer to Hue, allowing you to see this important imperial city at a more relaxed pace.
Indeed, Hue (pronounced "hway") merits a full-day excursion. Having served as the Vietnamese capital from 1802 to 1945, the city was home to thirteen emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty. Its three walled enclosures, built concentrically around one another, are collectively called the Citadel-an appropriate name, given that the emperor and his family lived within the Forbidden Purple City, located at the Citadel's center. The term "Forbidden" is appropriate too, as the Royal Palace resembles Beijing's Forbidden City.
Fascinating as it is, Hue is not the only sight to be explored during your call in Chan May. You will also have a chance to visit the historic commercial seaport of Hoi An, see the city of Da Nang, or head to China Beach, the stretch of sand that offered some R & R to U.S. soldiers during the Vietnam War.
Hanoi/Hongai, Vietnam
"In Singapore, at Saigon, one exists; at Hanoi, one lives."-Joleaud-Barral, French geographer. One of the great natural wonders of Asia, the natural beauty of Ha Long Bay, or the "Bay of the Descending Dragon," is outstanding. Speckled with over 3,000 karst mountains bursting from the calm water, is Ha Long Bay. Local myths hold that when the forefathers of the land were fighting foreign invaders from the north, the gods from heaven sent a family of dragons to help defend their land. The dragons descended upon what is now Ha Long Bay and began spitting out jewels and jade, which turned into islands and islets upon hitting the sea. The islands functioned as natural barriers against the invaders and the local people survived and vowed eternal honor to the dragon's mercy. Not only is Ha Long Bay's landscape spectacular, but Vietnam's capital city, Hanoi, is easily within reach. Hanoi lies in sometimes stark contrast with its southern sister city. While in Saigon, one sees Vietnam's future; in Hanoi, one sees its past. In a city with a population of 2.6 million people and approximately 2 million motorbikes, the downtown intersections represent a free-for-all between pedestrians and cyclists. Surprisingly, Hanoians aren't rushed and scrambling as are the Saigonese. Instead, they stroll and linger, converse and reflect. Old-fashioned in style, Hanoi is a city of lakes and parks, tree-lined, bicycle-filled boulevards, elegant colonial mansions and villas, all of which testify of its French legacy. Venturing into the city is a must and will provide you with a microcosm of Vietnamese culture and a truly memorable experience. Enjoy your adventures ashore!
Hong Kong, China
Although Hong Kong has returned to its original Chinese roots, it still remains a cosmopolitan city with influences, languages and accents from around the world. Here East meets West and the result is electric. Soaring skyscrapers rise from the hills and harbor, blending geography and nature with commercial concrete, steel and pulsating neon in a way that brings traditional Chinese culture and Western-style commerce into perfect harmony. The bustling city streets are lined with teeming markets and sophisticated boutiques tucked tightly into any available crevice. Some of the world's best shopping is found in Central, located on Hong Kong Island and only a short ferry ride away.
Xiamen, China
Looking out over the Taiwan Strait, Xiamen has long been an active port city, used as a base to defend against pirates during the Ming Dynasty and a hub for tea exportation in the 19th century.
Today, Xiamen is the gateway to the culture and scenery of south China, with ancient temples, excellent universities and inviting beaches. A short ferry cruise from Xiamen sits the island of Gulangyu, a favorite retreat for the locals. Should you visit the island, you will likely investigate its sights via electromobile, as there are no gas-powered vehicles on the island. This, along with beautiful vistas and interesting architecture, lends Gulangyu its unique appeal.
Shanghai, China
Shanghai, located just inside the mouth of the great Yangtze River, marks the point where Asia's longest and most important river completes its 3,400-mile journey to the Pacific. The city's unique location is the source of its existence and has determined what it is today. Until 1842, Shanghai was merely a tiny fishing village. Following the first Opium War, Shanghai became a treaty port, which opened the city to foreign influence and resulted in the development of numerous British, French and American colonial settlements within the city and along the Yangtze River. Today, Shanghai is the center of China's economic resurgence and its skyline attests to this development in the form of towering skyscrapers, brightly lit commercial high-rises and the unsettling Oriental Pearl Tower. A testimony to Shanghai's colonial era, stately European buildings in art deco style line the Bund, the city's spacious waterfront promenade. An endless flotilla of sampans edge the Huangpu River, dividing old and new Shanghai. Beyond the rush of the city, serene ponds and gardens offer a gentle respite. Must-see sights include the Jade Buddha Temple and tranquil Yu Garden, impressive monuments to China's history and style. Inland lies Suzhou, with its majestic Grand Canal and classical gardens, as well as equally significant Hangzhou, terminus of the Grand Canal and the center of China's legendary tea industry.
Dalian, China
The world's powers have been wrestling over the city of Dalian for over a century. In 1895, Japan laid claim to Dalian. A few years later the Russians took over. In 1905, Japan gained it back. After World War II, the Soviet Union occupied the city for ten years before leaving on friendly terms.
Once you visit Dalian, you will understand what all the fuss is about. It is a large, clean, modern city with a perfect location on the Yellow Sea. Scenic beaches beckon from just outside of town, annual festivals celebrate high fashion and the lotus flower, seafood is plentiful and delicious, and the national pastime, soccer, is followed with a passion.
Beijing/Xingang, China
After an early breakfast at your hotel, board your motor coach for the scenic, 47-mile journey through the countryside to one of mankind’s most impressive creations, the Great Wall. Built in the 3rd century BC to protect China’s northern border from marauding nomads and “barbarians,” the wall stretches about 4,500 miles east to west. Today, it remains a monument to the painstaking endeavors of nearly one million workers. Please wear comfortable shoes with soft rubber soles, as the walkway’s worn stones are frequently slippery.
Stop briefly at a local restaurant for a lunch of Chinese cuisine before returning to downtown Beijing and commencing a fascinating rickshaw tour of Beijing’s hutongs, or narrow streets and alleys. First appearing in Beijing during the Yuan Dynasty of 1271 to 1368, hutongs are created by courtyard houses, which form a Siheyuan, or quadrangle. Most quadrangles are surrounded by high walls; the passages that join one quadrangle to another are the narrow hutongs you will investigate today aboard your rickshaw. A highlight of this unique experience is your visit with a local family, offering an inmate glimpse into Chinese life.
Tonight you are invited to a spectacular dinner and performance at the Great Hall of the People. This impressive structure is where China’s legislature, the National People’s Congress, assembles for deliberations on state affairs. The building houses lavish facilities for official entertaining, including the enormous banquet hall where Richard Nixon dined during his historic visit to China in 1972.
Pusan, South Korea
Pusan, South Korea’s largest port city, is the country’s second largest city after Seoul and the world’s fifth largest port. Even shopping is a huge draw thanks to the world’s largest department store, Shinsegae Centrum City, located in Busan.
But this thriving metropolis is a place of smaller pleasures too. Six inviting beaches are ready to accommodate vacationers and day trippers; a trendy university area is alive with cafes, bars and restaurants; and an old central business district features eateries made famous by recipes handed down through the generations.
Nagasaki, Japan
Nagasaki is a thriving city on Kyushu Island's northwestern shores. As Japan's only access to the West, it flourished during a period of national isolation in the 16th century and continues to be influenced by the ideas and technology of other cultures. Must-see attractions include Japan's oldest gothic-style wooden church and the inspirational Peace Park. Also of particular note is the stately Glover Mansion, an impressive hideaway which was the legendary setting of Puccini's opera, Madame Butterfly. A harmonious blend of ancient and modern influences will be yours to enjoy during your sojourn in Nagasaki.
Kōbe, Japan
Cosmopolitan Kobe is a modern, bustling city of more than one and a half million people. Throughout its long history, it has functioned as a hub of international trade and exchange.
It contains a remarkable mix of architectural styles, including Moslem mosques and Russian Orthodox churches tucked between traditional Japanese buildings. To the north stands majestic Mount Rokko, the highest peak in the Rokko Range. A cable car ride to its summit reveals unsurpassed views of Kobe Harbor and Awaji.
Kobe is also our gateway to the ancient cities of Kyoto and Nara, the cultural fountainheads of Classical Japan.
Petropavlovsk, Russia
Petropavlovsk's claim to fame isn't necessarily the city itself, but the remarkable scenery that surrounds it. Like Base Camp at Everest (though with far better amenities), Petropavlovsk offers trekkers, anglers and skiers a comfortable place from which to provision and launch their expeditions.
The reason for such a variety of outdoor pursuits lies in the formation of the Kamchatsky Peninsula, a mountainous region in northeastern Russia on the Bering Sea. The peninsula is part of the Ring of Fire, the string of volcanoes that encircle the Pacific. Here on the peninsula there are 68 active volcanoes, providing outstanding opportunities for exploration and adventure. Visitors might soak in the hot springs, soar over the volcanoes via helicopter, see the Valley of the Geysers or discover Nalichevsky Nature Park.
Dutch Harbor, Alaska, USA
The port of Dutch Harbor, on tiny Amaknak Island, is connected by a bridge to the city of Unalaska, a onetime ancient Aleut Village. It lies 800 miles southwest of Anchorage in the heart of the Aleutian Islands along the "Ring of Fire," so named for the frequent volcanic activity of this portion of the Pacific Rim. These islands were the stepping-stones that lured Russian explorers to Alaska during the 1700s. Development quickened when ships heading for the Nome gold fields stopped here for provisions. Steller's sea lions are among this region's unique and abundant wildlife. You may also spot whales, seals, sea otters, porpoises and rare seabirds. Don't miss seeing the Holy Ascension Church, the island's World War II landmarks and other fascinating relics of the past.
Kodiak, Alaska, USA
Often called “Alaska’s Emerald Isle,” Kodiak Island is indeed magnificently green, thanks to its plentiful summer rains. In fact, many things are plentiful here, including fish and other wildlife. The island, situated off the coast of Alaska, boasts one of North America’s largest commercial fishing ports. Both avid and casual anglers will delight in chances to test their skills in catching halibut, trout, steelhead and all five species of salmon. Hikers and mountain bikers will find the area a paradise as well, with a choice of splendid trails that wind through Kodiak’s National Wildlife Refuge.
For those wanting to delve into local history, there are several museums in and near the main town of Kodiak: The Baranov Museum dedicated to the island’s history; the Alutiiq Museum, which illuminates the cultural traditions of the indigenous Alutiiq people; the Kodiak Maritime Museum, showcasing Alaska’s maritime heritage; and the Kodiak Military History Museum, aptly located in a restored bunker.
Seward, Alaska, USA
Kenai Fjords National Park, Resurrection Bay, the SeaLife Center research aquarium, not to mention the charm of the town itself, all conspire to make Seward one of the most appealing destinations in Alaska.
Seward began inconspicuously enough as a fishing village and point of arrival for those visiting Alaska. Now locals and visitors alike have discovered that there is enough to see and do here to merit a multi-day, if not indefinite, stay. You might paddle a kayak on the lookout for sea otters, hike one of the many beautiful hiking trails near town, embark on a fishing expedition or ride a wheeled sled pulled by a team of 12 spry and intelligent dogs. In town, visit the aforementioned SeaLife Center, where you can hold starfish and view puffins, seabirds, harbor seals and sea lions. Also investigate the Iditarod Trailhead and explore the quaint Seward Museum where you will learn the history of Seward as told by bits of memorabilia.
Ketchikan, Alaska, USA
Ketchikan is the salmon capital of the world and a paradise for fishermen and nature-lovers alike. A quiet city, it hosts quaint restaurants perched on stilts above the water, scores of fascinating shops and spectacular views from every vantage point. Although Ketchikan's Indian name means "Thundering Wings of an Eagle," it is also known as "Alaska's First City," so coined as it is frequently the first stop along the Inside Passage. Venture ashore and discover Ketchikan's rich Indian heritage, visit the world's largest collection of authentic totem poles at Totem Bight and walk along the rustic boardwalk on Creek Street where stilt-buildings in the harbor preserve a distinct pioneer feel. Or, we welcome you to paddle a kayak on sheltered waters, take a floatplane to a remote mountain lake or try your hand at sportfishing. Regardless of how you plan to spend your time in "Alaska's First City," we're sure your visit will be a memorable one.
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Prosperous and vibrant Vancouver is Canada's third-largest city and British Columbia's most cosmopolitan center. Enjoy exploring the restored Gastown district or discovering the intrigue of Chinatown. Seize this opportunity to sample delicacies from the sea, explore the North Shore and Stanley Park, the largest natural park of any city on the North American continent, and browse among shops and galleries in Granville Island. Blessed with an unsurpassed natural backdrop, Vancouver is set amid a gorgeous landscape of water and mountains. On a clear day, one can view rugged mountains, emerald-green parklands and the luminous sea from almost any vantage point.
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
Discovered by Captain Cook over two centuries ago, the lovely city of Victoria has successfully nurtured its English ambiance and heritage. Wonderful legacies are preserved with bright red double-decker buses and the delicious tradition of high tea.
Shops brim with tartans, china, silver and antiques. From the landmark Empress Hotel to the impressive Parliament Buildings, city streets are filled with gracious architecture. A glorious profusion of colorful flowers abounds within the hanging baskets on every lamppost and at the world-famous Butchart Gardens.
Victoria is an atmospheric city which brims with old-world charm.
Seattle, Washington, USA
The "Emerald City" of Seattle lies on the shores of Elliott Bay, flanked by two rugged mountain ranges. To the east are the Cascades, while the Olympic Range lies to the west. Towering in the distance is the 14,400-foot peak of Mount Rainier, the tallest volcanic peak in the lower 48. Seattle's lively past dates back to the 1800s when it was the gateway to Alaska. Representing more recent development is the distinctive Space Needle, which was inaugurated for the 1962 World's Fair. Nowadays this prosperous and lively city is home to such famous enterprises as Boeing, Starbuck's Coffee and Microsoft.
Astoria, Oregon, USA
Situated near the mouth of the Columbia River, Astoria is named after legendary investor and America’s first millionaire, John Jacob Astor. The tycoon’s American Fur Company founded Fort Astoria in 1810, making the site not only the company’s primary fur trading post in the Northwest, but also the first permanent American settlement west of the Rockies. Other historic figures and facts linked to Astoria include Lewis & Clark, who stayed near present-day Astoria during the winter of 1805-06, and how in 1847, the first post office west of the Rockies was established here.
A look into the past is yours to enjoy as you stroll past some of the city’s many restored Victorian homes and explore the revitalized 1920s era downtown. Of course, Astoria’s natural beauty is as renowned as its history, with its “Little San Francisco” character set against the steep, wooded hillsides of a temperate rain forest.
San Francisco, California, USA
Sailing under the famed Golden Gate Bridge is an unforgettable experience and is naturally a highlight of your visit to San Francisco. Upon arrival you will discover why this metropolis is one of the most diverse, dynamic and beautiful cities in the world. San Francisco is a melting pot of cultures and an important financial center of the world. Hellenic in its setting and climate, European in its intellectual and cultural scope, American in its vigor and informality and Asian in its tranquility, San Francisco is indeed one of the most exciting cities of the world. Opportunities for discovery abound. Stroll through Chinatown, shop at Union Square or browse through Fisherman's Wharf. Or perhaps, the attractions of North Beach will beckon. Sip cappuccino at a sidewalk café, feast on Italian food or browse through tempting specialty stores. Across the Golden Gate Bridge hide giant redwoods and artistic Sausalito which provide the perfect getaway from the city. Whatever your choice, San Francisco's distinctive charm engenders a special affection in the hearts of all who visit.
Santa Barbara, California, USA
Fair Mediterranean-style weather coupled with beautiful Mediterranean-style scenery make Santa Barbara a prime vacationer’s destination. This jewel of the Pacific, often called the American Riviera, is also a cultural and educational center, with an array of museums and several schools and universities, including University of California, Santa Barbara, and Brooks Institute of Photography drawing students here from around the world.
Sunny days can be spent strolling through the Santa Barbara Zoo, exploring boutique- and restaurant-lined State Street, dining on Stearns Wharf or experiencing the wineries of nearby Santa Ynez Valley, producer of world-class vintages and home to photogenic landscapes of golden hills and venerable oak trees.
Los Angeles/San Pedro, California, USA
Spectacular natural surroundings combined with the vitality of a creative and artistic community make Los Angeles one-of-a-kind. Sunshine, majestic palm trees and the sandy beaches of the Pacific share the spotlight with L.A.'s glamorous movie industry and its world-famous celebrities. Formally founded in 1781, it is now one of the world's largest metropolitan centers. Although there will not be any shore excursions offered in Los Angeles due to our limited time in port, you may contact our onboard Shore Excursion staff for helpful hints or suggestions on things to do while you are ashore.

B) Baggage Protection: Coverage for loss of or damage to baggage and other personal property of Guests who purchase the Cruise Protection Program is described in the Cruise Protection Program brochure. Such insurance coverage does not include any amounts or any property not specifically set forth in that brochure. Other than as elsewhere stated in this passage contract, Crystal Cruises shall have no liability of any kind for any reason for loss of or damage to baggage or personal effects.
9. Itinerary/Right To Change/Detention: Crystal Cruises reserves the right at its sole option and discretion and that of the Captain of the Ship without liability for damages or refund of any kind, to deviate from the Ship’s advertised or ordinary itinerary or route, to delay, advance or cancel any sailing, to omit or change ports of call, to arrange for substantially equivalent transportation by another vessel and/or by other means of transportation, to cause the Guest to disembark from the Ship temporarily or permanently, to tow or to be towed or assist other vessels or to perform any similar act which, in its sole judgment and discretion, is justified for any reason. Crystal Cruises may for any reason whatsoever cancel any sailing at any time before departure of the Ship. In such event, Crystal Cruises’ only liability will be to refund to the Guest the amount it has received for the Ticket.
10. Health/Pregnancy/Children/Disability/Wheelchair/Security/Indemnification:
A) The Guest represents and warrants that the Guest is physically and otherwise fit to travel; that he or she will at all times comply with the Ship’s rules and regulations and orders and directions of the Ship’s officers and medical staff; that his or her conduct will not impair the safety of the Ship or inconvenience other Guests. Crystal Cruises is unable to accommodate women past their 24th week of pregnancy.
B) Crystal Cruises, the Captain or medical officer of the Ship without liability at any time may refuse to transport or may land any Guest at any port or place, or transfer the Guest to other means of transportation, because of health or physical condition, mental disorder, failure to abide by Ship regulations, failure to possess necessary passports, visas and health or vaccination certificates, or other causes rendering the Guest unfit to travel.
C) If the Guest is refused passage or leaves the Ship prior to the end of the cruise for any of the reasons described in this section or for other reasons including, but not limited to, personal, medical, or business reasons, Crystal Cruises will not be required to refund any portion of the Ticket price, or to be responsible for any of the Guest’s costs.
D) Unwed, unrelated couples must be 18 or over to be booked in the same stateroom. Crystal Cruises is unable to accommodate children under six (6) months of age and reserves the right to restrict the number of those under three (3) years of age aboard the Ship. Any child under the age of eighteen (18) must be accompanied by an adult over the age of twenty-one (21). In addition, if the adult accompanying this child is not a parent, a “Parental Consent Guardianship Form” must be signed by a parent or legal guardian and received by Crystal Cruises prior to sailing. Parents can have two related children booked in the same stateroom provided one of them is at least 16 years of age. No one under the age of twenty-one (21) is permitted in the Ship’s casino or to participate in any monetary-based games of chance (including Bingo) on board.
E) Guests with any disability, including those primarily confined to wheelchairs or scooters or who use service animals, are recommended to notify Crystal Cruises at the time of booking. Crystal Cruises strongly recommends these Guests be accompanied by someone who is able to assist them both ashore and at sea. Some ports of call are anchorage ports, and physical conditions may preclude these Guests from going ashore. This decision must be made by the Captain of the Ship based on safety and is binding. Guests requiring a wheelchair or scooter must bring their own. Electrically powered scooters may only be brought on board upon completion of a Release and Indemnity form. Motorized scooters must not exceed 22” in width. Crystal Cruises reserves the right to limit the number of scooters on board. Portable oxygen tanks and oxygen concentrators may be used on board, provided that Crystal Cruises’ Onboard Guest Services is notified via a completed Release and Indemnity form at least 30 days prior to sailing. Crystal Cruises has a limited number of accessible staterooms available on a “first come first serve” basis. Crystal Cruises is obligated by law to investigate and pursue those individuals fraudulently requesting and using accessible staterooms.
F) The Guest hereby consents to a reasonable search being made of the Guest’s person, baggage or other property, and to the removal and confiscation or destruction of any object which may, in the opinion of Crystal Cruises impair the safety of the Ship, be illegal or inconvenience other Guests.
G) Guest understands and agrees that Guests must be at least 18 years old to be served wine and beer, and at least 21 years old to be served spirits. When docked or anchored in U.S. ports, within the three-mile limit, guests must be at least 21 years old to be served any alcoholic beverage. Guest agrees to abide by this provision.
H) The Guest shall indemnify Crystal Cruises for all penalties, fines, charges, losses or expenses incurred or imposed upon Crystal Cruises or the Ship by virtue of an act or violation of law by the Guest.
I) The Guest agrees that he or she shall not solicit for commercial purposes Guests or others on board the Ship, or advertise goods or services on board the Ship without the prior written permission of Crystal Cruises. Solicitation by vendors of goods and services, including but not limited to solicitation by travel agents, is strictly forbidden.

Crystal Cruises takes no responsibility for air or other transportation under any circumstances. Guests must assume responsibility for their actions while ashore and for their participation in shore activities.
B) The Guest shall have no right to any refund and Crystal Cruises shall have no obligation or liability of any kind to the Guest for acts or omissions in connection with or arising out of arrangements with independent contractors since they are not agents or employees of Crystal Cruises. No refund will be made for missed hotel nights or other program features due to airline delays or other factors beyond the control of Crystal Cruises. Hotel Programs and Extended Land Programs are subject to the same cancellation policy as described in “Cancellations Prior to Embarkation.”
D) Each Guest agrees that all rights, exemptions from liability, defenses and immunities of whatsoever nature referred to in the Ticket applicable to Crystal Cruises and the Ship, shall in all respects inure also for the benefit of any servant, agent or independent contractor of Crystal Cruises acting in the course of or in connection with their employment so that in no circumstances shall any such servant, agent or independent contractor as the result of so acting be under any liability to any such Guest different from that of Crystal Cruises, and for purposes of the agreement contained in this section, Crystal Cruises is or shall be deemed to be acting on behalf of and for the benefit of all persons who are or may be its servants, agents or independent contractors from time to time and all such persons shall to this extent be or be deemed to be parties to the passage contract contained in or evidenced by the Ticket.
E) Crystal Cruises will arrange air transportation upon a Guest’s request as a separate service. If a Guest chooses this optional service, Guest authorizes Crystal Cruises to select the air carrier, routing and schedule and to substitute charter flights for scheduled air or vice versa. If due to any cause beyond our control, Crystal Cruises is unable to arrange for air travel or the air travel we arrange is unavailable or otherwise fails to materialize, our liability will be limited to refunding the optional air add-on amount paid to Crystal less any applicable change or special deviation fees. Crystal assumes no liability for any acts or omissions of any airline, including, without limitation, those involving cancellation of flights, schedule changes, re-routings, damage to or delay or loss of baggage, flight delays, equipment failures, accidents, pilot or other staff shortages, overbooking or computer errors. In arranging transportation, Crystal acts as agent for the air carrier and not as principal. The liabilities and obligations of an airline to you and your rights as an airline passenger are governed exclusively by the terms and conditions of the airlines’ tickets and tariffs. Crystal Cruises does not own or operate the air carrier, ground transportation or hotels, and is not liable in any way for loss, damage, injury, illness or death arising in conjunction with the services provided by these independent contractors.
12. Non-Liability For Medical Treatment:
A) Doctors and/or nurses are on board the Ship for the treatment of crew members and may, for the convenience of the Guest and at the request of the Guest, give medical assistance to the Guest. Crystal Cruises does not undertake to treat or care for the Guest medically. Crystal Cruises shall not be liable for any aspect of medical treatment provided to the Guest, including, but not limited to, the consequences of any examination, advice, diagnosis, medication, treatment, prognosis or other professional services which such doctors or nurses may furnish the Guest. It may be necessary for the Guest to obtain shoreside medical services during or after the cruise in countries other than the United States in which a different standard of medical care applies than that to which the Guest may be accustomed. Crystal Cruises makes no warranty as to the quality of any such medical services.
