TYPICAL ITINERARY

Begin your 7-night  Greek Isles and Turkey Cruise on Star Clipper from Athens. Unpack once, relax and enjoy your holiday as you cruise to:

Rhodes, Greece

Largest of the twelve Dodecanese islands, Rhodes is most renowned as the site of the former Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The immense statue once straddled the harbour, but was destroyed by an earthquake many years ago. Within the capital's massive citadel walls the well preserved medieval Old Town presents a hive of narrow cobbled streets, dominated by the historic Avenue of the Knights and imposing Palace of the Grand Masters. Also visit Lindos, a National Historic Landmark, which is is amongst the most captivating sites in Greece and a setting of great antiquity.

Bodrum, Turkey

Located in the southwestern corner of Anatolia is Bodrum, a seacoast town in which sleek yachts are anchored in twin bays beneath the walls of the medieval castle of St Peter, built by the crusading Knights of St John in the 15th century. The town owes its fame to a man long dead (Mausolus) and his famous 'Mausoleum', one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World. Bodrum was built atop the ancient Greek city of Helicarnassus, whose ruined walls, temples and tombs are still visible. Bodrum’s other claim to fame comes from Herodotus, the “Father of History”, who was born here. Herodotus was the first person to write a comprehensive world history. With a population of 50,000 it is one of the Aegean’s prettiest small resort towns.

Dalyan River, Turkey

At first glance, this is a picture one hardly expects to see in Turkey. A lovely, unspoiled lake teeming with fish, a lush marshy delta, a lonely, deserted beach where sea turtles lay their eggs, a lazy reed-fringed river meandering into the sea. The deep reed beds provide a natural sanctuary for many species of birds, ranging from heron to kingfisher and cormorant.

Santorini, Greece

Legend has it that the island of Santorini in the Cyclades is the site of Plato's lost city of Atlantis. The extraordinary landscape of its vvestern edge is the result of the eruption in 1450 BC of a marine volcano, the sheer cliffs of whose caldera rim climb high above the ships at anchor below. Landing is by tender and you can reach the white houses of clifftop Thira Town by cable-car or donkey. Further afield the excavations at Akrotiri offer a glimpse of the Minoan civilisation overwhelmed by the volcano over 4000 years ago.

Monemvasia, Greece

Like Gibraltar, Monemvasia is a massive rock island off the east coast of the Peloponnese. It is linked to Gefyra, a village on the mainland by a short causeway and this is where most cruise ships arrive. Cross the causeway and pass through a tunnel in the rock and you will find the hidden medieval town clinging to a rocky cliff - evidence of rule by Byzantine, French, Venetian and Turkish invaders is everywhere. Explore the cobbled streets and winding stairways to find the 13th century Cathedral of Christ in Chains in the central square, the Church of Agios Pavos (956) and the 16th century Church of Panagia Hrysaphitissa. Take the path to the fortress and upper town where the fortress ruins and the Church of Agia Sophia perches on the edge of a sheer cliff.

Hydra, Greece

HYDRA, a barren, rocky island, lies upon a straight across from the Argolid Peninsula. Blessed by the absence of motorcars, with narrow arched-back streets, it has become a cosmopolitan artists and art lovers centre in recent years with several galleries scattered throughout the port. If you want to see the spectacular view from the Monastery of Ilias you'll have to ride by donkey.

OTHER INFORMATION

ROMANCE THE WIND ABOARD A TALL SHIP.

They are the stars of the sea. Star Clipper and Star Flyer are as fleet as the wind and as graceful as swans.

These are true clipper ships reflecting their proud heritage in every inch of their polished brass and gleaming brightwork. Step aboard these unique vessels and discover a new age of sail, where the traditions of the past are happily married to the comforts and amenities of the present day. Star Clipper and Star Flyer are modern cruise ships in every way, created for luxury-loving passengers who also love the traditions and romance of the legendary era of sailing ships. Star Clipper and Star Flyer are both 360 feet long and each carries just 170 guests in pampered comfort.

Life aboard is blissfully relaxed, much like traveling on a private yacht. You’ll never feel confined on Star Clipper or Star Flyer. Each ship offer spacious accommodations and expansive teak decks with ample space and not one, but two swimming pools. In fact, you’ll find that these ships offer more outdoor space per passenger than most conventional cruise ships.

The décor of Star Clipper and Star Flyer is reminiscent of the grand age of sail. Antique prints and paintings of famous sailing ships please the eye, while teak and gleaming mahogany rails are richly reminiscent of Star Clippers’ proud nautical heritage.

All Star Clippers ships feature open-seating dining in an elegantly appointed dining room, our convivial indoor-outdoor Tropical Bar and Piano Bar, and an Edwardian style library where a Belle Époque fireplace glows with a warmth that reflects the friendliness and enthusiasm of Star Clippers’ hospitable officers and crew.
